Galaxy breaks ground on $50M building in Worcester

WORCESTER — Galaxy Life Sciences LLC broke ground Wednesday morning on a $50 million building on a 6-acre plot at The Reactory biomanufacturing park on the former Worcester State Hospital campus.

Galaxy Life Sciences bought the parcel at The Reactory from the Worcester Business Development Corp. for $1.9 million. The deal also grants Galaxy Life Sciences the right to develop the remainder of the available lots in the biomanufacturing park.

Craig Blais of the WBDC praised Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito for her work on the biomanufacturing park. He said she promised from the very beginning that it would get done. Polito help secure $21 million from the state for the project, Blais said.

The Galaxy parcel is situated at Hospital Drive and Dorista J. Goldsberry Drive, just off Belmont Street.

The WBDC and the city of Worcester plan to construct and upgrade the roadway network and all necessary utilities to service the sites at The Reactory during the fall.
