Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center
The Presmet/GKN Sinter Metals facility is located on a 3-acre portion of property within Worcester’s Canal District. In 2002, GKN Sinter Metals consolidated its operations and vacated the complex, leaving the property underutilized and posing a significant impediment to the continued revitalization efforts within the surrounding district. In 2015, the WBDC purchased the industrial site for the purposes of converting the abandoned, blighted complex into a recreational destination for local colleges and the general public. Today, the new skating facility not only serves the “skating population” of greater Worcester but also supports the local bars, restaurants, hotels, and retailers within the immediate area. Further, this new destination creates and strengthens pedestrian connections throughout the area, increasing property values and encouraging additional private investment in and around the neighborhood.
